My thoughts on the oil price hike

For you bloodyhellboys (and girls) who have started working and drive to work, I'm sure the oil price hike really hit your wallet.

My own thoughts on the matter: I think oil subsidies should be reduced gradually over the long term, but the 30 sen hike was a bit too much at the wrong time.

aku dah agak dah..bila benda2 mcm ni sure takde org comment..hehe..ok heres my 2 cents..

i totally agree with just one increase in the price of oil instead of gradually increasing it coz as we know everytime when there is an increase in the oil price, the price of consumer goods will also go up..so instead of having multiple price hike, its better to have just one..its hard to control the traders/manufacturers etc from taking advantage from this so drpd nak pening2 byk kali baik sekali je kan?altho pak lah ada issued warning suruh traders jgn naikkan harga, i think the price increse in the consumer goods is unavoidable

oil is a non-renewable resources..so the prices are likely to remain high..hopefully when the govt said that they'll spend the 4.4b on improving the public amenities/transport etc, they trully meant it..by 2010,semua oil reserves msia akan habis..gila kan?

on the other hand i do believe that the price rise will only affect the poor/middle class only..the rich will not feel much effect..in past yrs, the govt has done thing such as lowering the tax for smaller cars which i think is a good way to ease the pain suffered by the middle class citizen n they shud continue on doing that

so bak kata our DPM dlm utusan, "Ubah Gaya Hidup"..eheheh

what about having affordable automobiles that can go, say something like, 100km per 1.5liters of fuel for example? check out: Loremo !.. unfortunately it's only out in 2009.

one price hiked is better than several price hiked in a year. the problem is now the usage of the fund save. the government in the past have failed to utilise the saving from the previous fund saved. i drive everyday to work and cars have not reduce n numbers, instead they are increasing. public transport is still inefficient despite all the initiative done by rapid kl.

so what will be the impact of this price hiked? as usual and as everybody is complaining about, almost all price of stuffs will increase. with the current inflation rate, don't be suprised if we gonna have another recession in 2007.

u know one more thing, when allother stuff prices increase, one thing haven't change for the last ten year or more. and that thing is gaji staff pnb...huhuhuhuhuh...sedih

price hike? im sure the govt are ready to accept a certain amount of flak with that decision - i.e. from budu - while he's still in a mean mood reeling from the ingenious 30 sen plan. budu> hope uve had enough practice waking up early..heheh ;)

rai&kerol> apt suggestions there..kerol:something friendly to the environment! im thinking of something along those lines jugak...

my thoughts? heres some stupid ones

1) invest more in public transport - which i strongly believe will only culminate after a looooooooooong period of ground preparation, especially in malaysia lah - things delivered at higher prices what! (take that with a pinch of salt please)...

2) invest more in alternative energy sources. to quote michael parfit (nat geo august 05) "oil is king, but with supplies tight and production expected to peak in the next few decades, the future depends on finding an heir" without changes, enery consumptino from oil will leap, - not only will prices go sky high, but more climate-altering CO2 will be generated. Enery scientist Dan Kammen said "we're running out of atmosphere faster than we're running out of fossil fuels. The more we diversify our sources, the better"

3) buy a kancil and dont bring unnecessary stuff in your boot. things such as your nenek's periuk nasi or golf clubs will only increase weight and drag and as a consequence, youll pay more for petrol...and no neon lights and ahbeng sound systems with kancils please, they dont mix well - so pathetic..(digression)

anyhooooo
yes, i think im with budu this time, the price hike was a bit too much at the wrong time - rubbing salt in someone's wounds, that is.(pnb employees, take note ;)) i guess ill understand budu's antipathy better when i start working kat msia nanti...

yeah... with my small knowledge of economic.. id still say better to reduce the subsidy... easy for me to say coz im not yet driving in malaysia...

but the thing is.. using public transportation is the best way of saving the resources.. plus it gives job opportunity to fellow malaysian.. unless lepas ni kita tgk indon la jd bus driver...

the lrt is there man... use it.. save the oil.. save the environment.. better use the money for subsidy to something else.. defence, education and poverty...

stop sending ridiculous number of medical students abroad! a million perstudent.. baik buat uni and new hospitals!

and yeah like dato rai said... change the lifestyle... sumer org nak hidup senang... sumer nak pakai kereta.. padahal kat london or dublin nih... hot shot ceo naik tube or basikal je...

camna dato? sanggup ke naik basikal?

good point Cherap! Transport For London has been going all out these couple of years back to promote their buses and Oyster card usage - to much success I think! In fact their Oyster card introduction was about 5 years after we introduced our Touch&Go system in Malaysia but i feel they've leapfrogged us in terms of harnessing the potentials of the card including public use coverage and the "one card for all transport" call.
Do u notice this: Oyster card users pay less than if u pay by cash.
Whereas in Malaysia, Touch&Go users pay equivalent or a bit extra than if they pay by cash(with reference to the shopping mall carparks)! Such a backlash to what was once perceived to be a forward step in technology. Doesn't make sense since we've already given our cash in advance right?

"stop sending ridiculous number of medical students abroad!" <-- Hahah! good one!
